hey guys well i found the problem with my car, my speedometer went and then an engine light came on. I took it to a import shop in town, it was a code 17. I went to work and looked in the haynes manual and my ecu is not working or busted its a shame. I get a new speedometer tommorrow, so hopefully it will work. I need to know can i run with the bad ecu for about a month and a half. Or should i get one right away, I'm getting a zc i made the decision to get one. Its getting put in for free, i added up all the stuff i need and well it even'ed out at 1500 since i have a dx or close to that. And thats the deal they made me. So i have 875$ i need another month. Well i will talk to you guys later, give me a holler on the ecu problem would appreciate. see ya!

Did you look at the ecu?? If it is bad the LED will usually stay on the whole time. Your car wouldn't run if the ecu was dead.

well what could be the problem it says the ecu is going bad or already is i dont know what to actually do. I'm not the smartest guy in the world, still learning here. I know you guys know a lot more than me but explain it to me. Its running a code 17 and well from the book it said the ecu wasnt doing so well so i guess its going. But what i need to know would it last at least another month so i can get my engine in.

Code 17= Vehicle Speed Sensor
It is either unplugged or defective. I would just check all the wiring coming from the transmission and all the connections to the back of guage cluster. Also check out your speedometer cable. I think your ecu is ok and it is just something with the speed sensor.
